Our dog got sprayed by a skunk

Posted in General by Rob

Last night, our little chihuahua got sprayed by a skunk. It stunk so bad! Like, incredibly worse than I thought possible. I’m sure everyone has smelled a skunk’s scent before, but when you are in the same room as a dog that was just sprayed, the smell is very different. It was like how I imagine nerve gas would be. At close range, it’s like you’re not only smelling the odour, but you’re somehow feeling it as it paralyzes you and makes you want to barf.

My parents did the whole bath in tomato juice thing, which helped, but didn’t take away all of the odour. After a couple baths with tomato juice and shampoo, she wasn’t so stinky, but I think there’s still a bit lingering skunk smell.

Don’t mess with skunks. Poor little pup…

since when did you get a chihuahua? fun fun. not the skunk spraying though. that’s not fun.

seeing as how I have a dog and a huge field in the back. I googled deskunking remedies and found this:
    Deskunker
1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
    1 teaspoon liquid soap

Wet the dog, and work the formula through their fur. Leave the mixture to sit on the dog for four or five minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. Throw out any leftover remedy.

Now i don’t really know if it’ll work. but maybe you should try it and tell us after? P.S. if your dog explodes, please don’t kill me.
