The other day I was watching a bit of tv, and I saw a new Virgin Mobile commercial about 60 times in 10 minutes. Check it out:
I was kinda surprised to hear the song they used. It’s a remix of Simian’s song “Never Be Alone”, done by a super cool French duo named Justice. They remixed the song in 2003, as part of a college radio remix contest, and they’ve been making incredible music ever since.
I’ve heard a few of their other remixes in the past (like their remix of Death From Above 1979‘s ‘Blood On Our Hands’), but I only started listening to Justice’s own songs earlier this year, and they are amazing. Their first full-length album just came out in June of this year, and it’s the coolest electronic/dance sounding stuff I’ve heard in a while. Justice is on the Ed Banger Records label, which is home to a whole bunch of amazing French electronic artists. You should check them out.
On Sunday night, my friend Christien and I went to Mississauga to see Daft Punk play live. It was completely off the hook, and one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Their stage setup was amazing, with the best light show I’ve ever seen. It was loud, robotic, and really entertaining. The crowd was so hyped up, and everybody seemed to be having a great time dancing and jumping around.
Opening for Daft Punk was a cool band from New York called The Rapture. They played a great set, getting the audience in a dancey mood with their funky, electronic rock music. Between bands, SebastiAn and Kavinsky were DJing, playing some sick tracks that really got the crowd in a frenzy. Busy P also made an appearance, playing a few songs.
Overall, it was an amazing show and I’m pretty sure everybody there had the prime time of their lives.
The other week my brothers cleaned up our basement and finally took back all of the empty liquor bottles we’ve been collecting over the past year or so. There were also a few cases of beer. I’m glad I was at work and didn’t have to help carry them all.
In total, they got $55 back. There were about 270 beer bottles, 20 empty 40s (1.14L) and 60 empty 26ers (750mL) and a handful of mickeys. By my quick math, that’s over 90 litres of beer, and 70 litres of liquor. In total, it was an estimated $2300 worth of alcohol.
This past Saturday night I went to the Fall Out Boy concert at the Molson Amphitheater, which was pretty good. As expected, the crowd had an average age of about 13, but there weren’t as many disturbing little emo kids as I had thought there would be.
We missed Paul Wall, which was sad, because he would have been cool to see. +44 was the best band of the night, but Fall Out Boy wasn’t as bad live as I’ve heard they are. It was a good time overall.
I got home around 1:30am, and was thinking about heading over to a party that my friends were at, but it was kinda late, and I was pretty tired. I had a snack and decided to hit the hay. As I went to lay down in my bed, I noticed it was all wet. I switched the light back on and realized my bed was covered in barf. Not cool. It turns out the dog wasn’t feeling well and she barfed in my bed and somehow twirled it around through all of my sheets, so I had to find new ones.
I got my bed all fixed up and finally got to bed at around 2:30. I got a phone call at about 3:45am from Albert, asking me if I could come pick him and Alan up, because Alan needed to go to the hospital. It turns out Alan was riding a bike home from the party, and he smashed his face into a street sign. So my brothers and I headed over, picked them up and went down to the hospital where Alan received 12 stitches in his head.
I finally got to bed at about 5am and slept in until 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Good times.
I was in Toronto on Saturday for my cousin’s birthday. We went out to the Phoenix for a night of drinking and partying. On the walk to the club, we were crossing a street when a girl came up to me asking for spare change. I didn’t have much change on me, but I gave her what I had, which amounted to maybe 30 cents. As I started walking away, the bitch started yelling and then threw the money I gave her back at me. I was halfway across the street at this point, and I just stopped, completely stunned by how incredibly rude and stupid she was.
From what I can recall, the rest of the night was a lot of fun.
